Mr. Hartley is a co-founder of Verus. Prior to founding Verus, he was an attorney with a national practice involving commercial, securities and consumer litigation. Mr. Hartley has represented a wide variety of clients including municipalities, corporations and businesses. He was lead counsel in the seminal Uniform Securities Act case of Connecticut National Bank v. Giacomi, as well as lead counsel in the matter of In re Colonial Realty Litigation Securities Fraud. Mr. Hartley has also worked with Attorneys Generals in various states prosecuting actions on behalf of businesses and citizens of those states.
Mr. Hartley is a 1972 graduate of Boston College. He received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1975 from Columbia University. Mr. Hartley is a member of the Connecticut bar, the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Drubner is a former Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. During his almost 10 years at the Bureau, Mr. Drubner investigated international organized crime, fraud and global money laundering, in addition to other financial crimes. During the investigation and prosecution of these cases, Mr. Drubner was responsible for reviewing voluminous bank, financial and corporate records, as well as conducting large scale audits of large repositories of said financial records. In addition to the above investigative duties, Mr. Drubner served as a certified FBI Legal Instructor and Advisor. He has lectured on money laundering at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, Fordham University Law School, among other forums.
Mr. Drubner is a 1987 graduate of Emory University. He received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1990 from Boston College Law School (cum laude). Mr. Drubner is a member of the Massachusetts Bar.
Prior to joining Verus, Mr. Lee managed several pioneering start-ups. In 2002, he co-founded Redbrick Partners, the first investment management firm to focus on institutionalizing investment activity in single-family housing. Prior to Redbrick, Mr. Lee was CEO and founder of GiftCertificates.com, the leading marketer of gift certificates in the country. Mr. Lee also served general manager and co-founder of Integrated Computing Engines, a developer of supercomputing digital effects tools for film and video.
Mr. Lee began his career as a management consultant with Bain & Company. He graduated Harvard Business School with Distinction and Brandeis University with honors.
Jim has over 21 years of experience in the identification, audit, and collection of unclaimed property. Prior to joining Verus, Jim spent a combined 19 years at Affiliated Computer Services, Inc., (ACS) most recently as a Vice President in the ACS Unclaimed Property Clearinghouse business unit. Jim’s various duties and responsibilities included the management and oversight of involuntary general ledger field audits and managerial involvement in all aspects of securities and general ledger compliance.
In addition, Jim worked for 2 years representing holders as a Manager in the PricewaterhouseCoopers LLC State Tax Consulting practice where he worked on a number of multistate unclaimed property examinations.
Jim earned his B.A. in Economics from the University of New Hampshire.
Ms. Marshall is an attorney with over 15 years of experience. She began her career as a prosecutor at the New York County District Attorney’s Office. Prior to joining Verus, she was litigating complex civil actions. In the course of her career, Ms. Marshall has represented a wide variety of clients, including state pension funds and other institutional investors. She has extensive experience working closely with auditing experts and forensic accountants. Additionally, Ms Marshall has been responsible for overseeing teams of attorneys conducting detailed reviews of large volumes of corporate and financial records.
Ms Marshall is a 1988 graduate of Dartmouth College. She received her Juris Doctorate degree in 1992 from Fordham Law School.
Mr. Hellman is an attorney with over 13 years experience representing clients in a variety of commercial business and litigation matters. Many of the cases Mr. Hellman has worked on have involved significant analysis and application of accounting and auditng principles as well as regulatory rules and procedures.
Mr. Hellman is a graduate of Bard College. He received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1996 from New York Law School (summa cum laude) and began his career as an associate at Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP. Mr. Hellman has been associated with Verus since the company's inception.
Richard Beattie is Chairman of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP where he specializes in counseling board of directors and non-management directors on governance issues, investigations and litigation involving corporate officers and other crisis situations. He also specializes in mergers and acquisitions and leveraged buyouts. He has participated in some of the larger and more complex financial transactions, including J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.’s $58 billion acquisition of Bank One Corporation, the merger of America Online and Time Warner and the merger of WellPoint Health Networks with Anthem Inc.
Mr. Beattie has a long record of public service. During the Carter Administration, he served as General Counsel of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare, and in 1980, as Director of the Transition and Counsel to the Secretary of Education, he was in charge of organizing the U.S. Department of Education. During the 1980’s, Mr. Beattie served on the New York City Board of Education. He has served as a Special Advisor to the Secretary of State and during 1995-1997 was President Clinton’s Emissary for Cyprus.
Mr. Beattie is also Chairman of the Board and founder of New Visions for Public Schools, a not-for-profit organization that develops and implements programs to affect system-wide improvements in public education in New York City. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Harley-Davidson, Inc., Heidrick & Struggles, the Carnegie Corporation and the National Women’s Law Center, as well as a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and Vice Chairman of the Board of Overseers and Managers of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Chairman of the Board of Managers of Memorial Hospital for Cancer and Allied Diseases. Mr. Beattie is the recipient of a Bank Street College Honorary Doctorate of Education and the President’s Medal, The Legal Aid Society’s Servant of Justice Award and The Jewish Theological Seminary’s Judge Simon H. Rifkind Award.
Mr. Beattie joined Simpson Thacher & Bartlett in 1968 after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Prior to law school, he served four years in the Marine Corps as a jet pilot after graduating from Dartmouth College in 1961.
Mr. Dinallo is currently the Henry Kaufman Visiting Professor of Finance at the Stern School of Business at NYU. Until May 2009, he served as the Superintendent of Insurance for New York State. From 2003 to 2006, Mr. Dinallo was the Managing Director, Global Head of Regulatory Affairs for Morgan Stanley. Prior to Morgan Stanley, he served at the Office of Attorney General Eliot Spitzer as Chief of the Securities Bureau, where he led investigations of conflicts of interest in the financial services industry. He produced more than 40 major civil and criminal matters and led the Bureau through the beginning of its mutual fund industry investigations. Before joining the Attorney General's office, Mr. Dinallo served as an Assistant District Attorney in the New York County District Attorney's office, where he had primary responsibility for prosecuting cases involving securities fraud, white collar fraud, and insider trading.
Mr. Dinallo graduated from Vassar College in 1985 and earned a Masters degree from Duke University's School of Public Policy in 1987. He obtained his J.D. in 1990 from New York University Law School.
Frank Zarb is a Managing Director of Hellman & Friedman. He has served as CEO of a number of financial service companies and has held a number of senior positions in the U.S. Government.
